Spring, Simplicity and Slowing Down

I had been trying all winter to be more focused and in the moment and it didn’t work. I think that I had some preconceived ideas of what being in the moment would look like and feel like.

I wanted my meditation time to be more structured. I was pushing to try to meditate the same time every day, even though that has never really worked for me.

breatheBy mid March, I noticed that I was very tired. I finally decided that I needed to simplify and slow down. What do I really want to do, what activities match my values, and how does my business need to change?

What do I enjoy doing was a very big question for me. I felt pressure from other people’s ideas, especially about outdoor activities, and events.

The truth is, I enjoy being at home. I am very happy being at home. I spent 30 plus years working in public schools. I started my business full time in 2008. I enjoy it very much. And it has taken time to find my own rhythm, set my own schedule.

I feel that the questing of winter has brought me many realizations, one of which is that my nature is one of various rhythms that will change with the seasons and my schedule will change too.

As I cleared my schedule to focus on preparing taxes with my husband, I also planned time to revamp my website and update my services, (more about that in my next newsletter).

Following sage advice from Eckhart Tolle, I looked at what was right in front of me. Relecting on the taxes, brought to light not only where I was spending money, but also my time and energy. Decluttering, then seemed like the perfect project for spring. Clearing out what no longer serves me will set the stage for new growth and new lifestyle changes. May spring bring you clarity and renewal!

Congratulations on finding your own rhythm, Catherine. It’s a big step even to know that we need to find a different way of moving / being, much less actually doing it. Way to go! I hope you’re having a simple, spectacular springtime!
