Clearing and Clarity

I have been doing a lot of physical clearing of my space. As I cleared my space, I found that I now had room to go through boxes that had been stored in various parts of the house.

One of the ideas behind clearing or decluttering is that by letting go of what you no longer need or use, you open a space for new energies, new activities, new relationships, and new possibilities in your life.

At first, I found the idea of more space exciting and imagined different possibilities. I even tried re-purposing the smallest room in the house. I set up a large table in this small room. And small baskets of papers to be processed and sorted. It was quite nice at first, no distractions and a quiet place to read and journal. But then, it became overwhelming again with so many activities in there.

clearing_and_creatingHave you ever noticed that Clearing and Creating have the same letters except for one difference? There is an “l” in clearing and a “t” in creating. I think that I expected that once I cleared an area, something new would be automatically or easily created.

It appears to me that creating takes time, much as clearing takes time. While you can track the amount of time you spend clearing and estimate how much time some clearing projects will take, it is not the same process with creating.

While I have cleared a space for creating, more questions arise. What do I want to create? Why do I want to create this or that? Are my desires to create, true desires or false ideas of what I should do, or be?

My outer environment and my inner processes seem very intertwined with their own timetable. I had cleared space this summer in my schedule to create or recreate aspects of my business as well as my lifestyle. Being in this transitional space, this liminal space of the unknown, sometimes feels off balance.

The only thing to do is keep coming back to this present moment, being with what is and open to allowing things to unfold organically, in their own divine timing.

That is the lesson that is presenting itself in my life.
