What I Am Learning From My Knee Pain

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Future

In the beginning of the year 2010, I decided on three key themes: slowing down and mastering my energy, being more in the present moment, getting clear on my vision, my thoughts, beliefs and feelings.

My vision board was less goal centered and more about opening to creative energies and receiving from spirit. (see my January newsletter, Volume 2 ,issue # 1)

Having just come out of a very reflective and difficult winter, I felt the energies moving as spring approached.

I was especially looking forward to how I would develop my business to help more people and expand my business by creating new programs and services. I was ready to move forward.

Then , BAM, while attending an all day workshop, my right knee began to hurt. I just thought it was the result of sitting on some very uncomfortable hotel chairs. A few days rest and I would be fine. But that did not happen. After a bit of rest, I started to experience more and more pain. Instead of just having pain at night keeping me awake, I had excruciating pain all day.

Some Lessons I am Learning From My Knee Pain

Dealing with my knee pain which is now into the 8th week has brought up many issues. A funny thing happened on my way to the future, I have had to stop and be aware of not only my present moment, but my recent past as well as past lives.

Slow down – There’s nothing like pain to slow one down. I have to stop and think. What am I feeling? What do I need right now? What needs to be done? What can be let go of?

Surrender – Surrendering to the tiredness and exhaustion. As I began paying more attention to my body, I could feel waves of tiredness coming over me. I had not realized just how much I had pushed myself in my previous job and was now carrying over as a habit.

Asking for and receiving help – I have received so much help physically, virtually and spiritually. I received help with housework through the Time Bank. I have had complimentary herbal consultations, information from teleseminars, telephone exchanges with colleagues and prayers from many people.

Letting go of worry – and allowing my husband to expand his “honey do” list.

Creating new solutions – How to get tasks done with limited mobility.

Using more technology to help myself.

Tapping in to my inner self even more and creating my own healing journeys.

Becoming the Queen of Pillows – I have tried every combination of pillows possible to sit and sleep more comfortably and to ease the pain. I actually wrote the first part of this Ezine, while sitting on an office chair with a pillow for my lower back, my legs outstretched on a pillow over a foot stool, with a pillow ion my lap for the keyboard. I wrote the second half on a computer stand that we got at Office Depot.
