Nurture Yourself

The holiday time is often filled with many emotions and conflicting thoughts. It is my wish for you that you take time to nurture yourself so that you remain peaceful. Here are some scenarios that may occur:

  1. Family members may respond to a fixed image of you when you were younger, that does not reflect who you are now. Family gatherings may not be the place to update them about your growth. See if you can find a place of deep acceptance with yourself for them. See the love and support that they are able to give at this time. Let the rest go.
  2. You may desire to change some of the traditions that your family has been observing. You want to change things up and do things differently. However, it may be too late to make changes now. Think of some new options that you would like to experience. Wait for opportunities when you are enjoying yourself to share new options that you feel would be fun for everyone.
  3. You will be alone for the holidays. Create something new for yourself. It may involve gathering with others who would otherwise be alone, or volunteering with a non-profit group. Or it may suit you best to have a quiet, contemplative day in which you journal, meditate, listen to music, have a special meal and perhaps enjoy some artwork.
  4. You have recently lost a loved one. Loss is always difficult. Grieving during the “holiday time” can be most difficult. Stay connected to your support network, know exactly who will be available and when. Will they be available by phone or email, or are they able to visit? Schedule an extra session with your spiritual counselor or support group. Keep up with your nutritional and supplement needs.
  5. You are in charge of the family get together. Simplify as much as you can. Simplify meals, activities and shopping. Delegate as much as you can, trade or swap tasks with others, and hire help if needed.
  6. Whatever is going on for you this season, take some alone time. Reflect on what is meaningful for you. What do you want to keep in your life, what can you let go of? As you prepare for giving to others, what do you want to give to yourself? Do you want more time, more peace, more clarity, more focus?
Open to receive all the light, wisdom, love, and peace that is available to you from the Divine. You are always connected to the Divine and are an expression of the Divine. You are the channel to receive blessings for yourself and through which blessings flow to others.

I have created a short meditation for you that I hope will be useful for you. It is a meditation to center yourself in a nurturing space. Click here to listen.
